The automatic transmission assembly with reference numbers 30500-42270 and 30500-73020 is designed for the Aisin U760F 6-speed automatic transmission. As the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) counterpart to the U760E, this highly efficient transverse unit features an integrated transfer case, delivering reliable traction, smooth shifting, and excellent fuel efficiency for the Toyota RAV4, Venza, Vanguard, and related compact/mid-size SUV platforms.

Quick Specifications:

  • Part Numbers: 30500-42270 / 30500-73020 (Toyota OEM format)
  • Transmission Model: U760F (6-Speed Automatic AWD)
  • Type: Transverse All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
  • Engine Compatibility: Primarily 2.5L 4-Cylinder (2AR-FE) and select 2.4L/2.5L variants
  • Max Input Torque: ~250-280 Nm
  • Fluid Type: Toyota ATF WS (World Standard)
  • Fluid Capacity: ~7.0 - 8.0 Liters (dry fill, slightly higher than FWD due to transfer case)

Applications:

  • Toyota RAV4 (XA40, 2013-2018, 2.5L AWD variants)
  • Toyota Venza (AV10, 2008-2016, 2.5L AWD variants)
  • Toyota Vanguard (ACA38W / ALA38W, JDM long-wheelbase RAV4, 2.4L/2.5L AWD)
  • Toyota Harrier (XU60, select 2.0L/2.5L AWD variants)
  • Lexus NX (Select early 2.0L/2.5L non-turbo AWD variants sharing the U760 platform)

Complete Assembly Includes:

✅ Lightweight aluminum transmission case with integrated AWD transfer case assembly
✅ High-efficiency torque converter with Flex Lock-up clutch
✅ Valve body with precision linear shift solenoids
✅ Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) / transfer case output for rear driveshaft
✅ Clutch packs, brake bands, and high-volume oil pump
✅ Input/Output speed sensors, range selector, and sealing gaskets
Note: Transmission mounts, shift cables, rear driveshaft, and external cooler lines may need to be transferred from the original unit.

Key Features:

AWD Capability: Integrated transfer case seamlessly distributes torque to the rear wheels via the rear driveshaft for enhanced traction in adverse weather and light off-road conditions.
Flex Lock-Up Technology: The torque converter lock-up clutch engages in a much wider speed range, providing a direct-drive feel and significantly improving fuel economy.
Compact Transverse AWD: Achieves 6 speeds and AWD functionality in a space-efficient package, optimizing cabin and cargo space.
Smooth Shift Logic: Advanced electronic control ensures seamless gear transitions, perfectly matched to the torque curve of the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine.
High Thermal Efficiency: Optimized fluid routing and cooling passages prevent overheating during sustained highway driving or AWD engagement.

Technical Notes:

Critical Installation Requirements:
  • Fluid Specification: Must use Toyota ATF WS (World Standard) exclusively. Using incorrect fluid will ruin the friction characteristics of the Flex Lock-up clutch and cause severe shudder.
  • Fluid Level Check: Must be performed with the transmission at operating temperature (typically 70°C–80°C) and the engine idling, using the overflow check plug on the transmission pan.
  • Transfer Case Alignment: When mating the rear driveshaft, ensure the transfer case output splines are properly aligned and lubricated with assembly grease to prevent binding or stripping.
  • ECU/TCM Reset: After installation, the ECU memory reset and shift adaptation learning must be performed using Toyota Techstream or equivalent diagnostic tools to ensure proper line pressure and shift timing.
  • Cooler Flushing: The transmission cooler (integrated into the radiator) and external lines must be thoroughly flushed to remove metallic debris from the failed unit.
Common Issues & Maintenance:
  • Transfer Case/PTO Wear: Ensure the shared ATF is kept clean to prevent bearing and gear wear in the AWD transfer case unit. Listen for whining noises from the rear PTO, which can indicate low fluid or bearing wear.
  • Valve Body / Solenoid Wear: High-mileage units may experience wear in the valve body sleeves or sticky solenoids, leading to harsh 2-3 shifts or flaring. Regular fluid changes prevent abrasive debris buildup.
  • Torque Converter Shudder: A vibration felt at low speeds or during light acceleration can occur if the ATF WS fluid degrades and loses its friction modifiers. A fluid exchange or torque converter replacement resolves this.
  • Fluid Service Intervals: A drain and fill every 60,000–80,000 km is strongly recommended to maintain the health of the Flex Lock-up clutch, the AWD transfer case, and extend the lifespan of the U760F.
